With the increase in renewable energy in the energy grid, it's becoming increasingly important to balance supply and demand. On sunny days, a lot of renewable energy is fed into the grid, which can't always be consumed immediately. Besides balancing supply and demand, Greenchoice uses storage to ensure that this renewable energy is used more effectively.
energy balance
We've been working with companies for years to store sustainably generated wind and solar energy. This is often done using large container batteries. However, arranging permits, construction drawings, and technical and safety requirements requires expertise and care.
Large batteries can offer a fossil-free solution. They store excess power and then supply it again when a shortage threatens. Sustainable flexibility is strategically important to Greenchoice, hence the partnership with GESThis company focuses on building large-scale energy storage at existing wind and solar farms.
From research to construction
As a project developer you guide GES feasibility studies for energy storage and examines the technical requirements and spatial and landscape integration. The company arranges permits, financing, and concludes contracts with suppliers and partners. It also provides support GES the actual construction of the installation.
"There are many things involved in installing energy storage. We are specialists in guiding the entire chain," says GES-Director Guus Bengsch. Previously, Bengsch was project manager for Greenchoice during the construction of energy storage at the De Dijken solar farm in North Holland and the Hartel 2 and Hellegatsplein wind farms in South Holland.
In the coming years I want GES bad 200 Realize megawatts of energy storage. By absorbing energy peaks and troughs, the storage also relieves the electricity grid in the Netherlands.
